Garfield is a city in Douglas County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 281 at the 2000 census.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.0 km² (0.8 mi²). 2.0 km² (0.8 mi²) of it is land and 1.28% is water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 281 people, 111 households, and 71 families residing in the city. The population density was 140.9/km² (364.6/mi²). There were 121 housing units at an average density of 60.7/km² (157.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 97.86% White, 0.71% Native American, 0.36% Asian, and 1.07% from two or more races.
There were 111 households out of which 36.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.4% were married couples living together, 8.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.0% were non-families. 32.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 3.24.
In the city the population was spread out with 29.5% under the age of 18, 11.4% from 18 to 24, 29.5% from 25 to 44, 19.6% from 45 to 64, and 10.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 84.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.4 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $30,000, and the median income for a family was $35,714. Males had a median income of $27,500 versus $20,833 for females. The per capita income for the city was $12,847. About 13.5% of families and 15.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 14.9% of those under the age of eighteen and 25.0% of those sixty five or over.
