Gareth Knight

Dr. Basil Wilby, aka Gareth Knight (born 1930) is a British esotericist and occult author who began his esoteric training in 1953 as a member of the Society of the Inner Light, founded by Dion Fortune.
In the 1960s and 70s he undertook several ventures in publishing esoteric material, including editing the magazine New Dimensions, and co-founding Helios Books. He also collaborated with W. E. Butler to create a correspondence course in Qabalah; this course later formed the basis of the Servants of the Light school of occult training. During this time, Knight founded a new esoteric school which continues work today (2004).
In the course of a career spanning over fifty years, Knight has written extensively on esoteric topics, mostly centered around the Qabalah. The most widely-read of these works is probably A Practical Guide to Qabalistic Symbolism, but other notable works include The Experience of the Inner Worlds, which grew out of an association with Christian priest Anthony Duncan, and a new edition of Dion Fortune's An Introduction to Ritual Magic, to which Knight contributed a companion chapter for each of Fortune's original chapters.
Knight continues to be active in the occult community both through his writing and his involvement in the Society of the Inner Light.

Gareth Knight is a web professional enjoying the famously sunny climes in London (if there was ever any chance of cheaper and faster bandwidth in South Africa, then you might also find him in Johannesburg). He comes from a digital and enterprise software background, having done pretty much everything from web design back in ‘99, through to software business development more recently. At the moment he’s doing web development for clients, consulting and sharing knowledge with others, and building a web app. He’s also trying very hard to get more sleep.
He gets a thrill out of finding and creating new things, evangelises blogs, Wordpress, Joomla!, Wiki’s MediaWiki, Ubuntu, RSS, good design and usable software whenever possible, but quite surprisingly doesn’t own a Mac.
He also writes for .Net magazine, runs a business group of 5 entrepreneurial business owners and keeps a blog here at http://www.oneafrikan.com/. Don’t get him talking about ecosystems, megaherbivores or sustainability, as you might let the zoologist in him out. But that might not be a bad thing ;-)
