[edit] Pre Wrexham Career
Gareth attended the old Ysgol Bryn Offa in Wrexham between 1998 and 2003. During this time he played junior football for Brickfield Rangers and local league cricket for Brymbo and Flintshire.
He was signed on associate schoolboy forms with Wolverhampton Wanderers after scouts saw him play for Brickfield. He was released by Wolves at age 16.
At this time in the summer of 2003, he signed for NEWI Cefn Druids F.C., where he was managed by ex-Rochdale and Darlington player Steve O'Shaughnessy. "Gaz" was just one of several youngsters who broke into Cefn's team for the 2003-04 season, including Roy Cardus and Matt Cooper.
Gareth attended Yale College during this time and was part of the Druids Academy Team that played in the Welsh Youth Cup. In the League of Wales, he made 31 appearances, 25 of which were off the bench, impressing in nearly all of his six starts and attracting the attention of Football League Clubs.
In April 2004, just prior to the surprise sacking of O'Shaughnessy, Gareth went on trial to Wrexham, along with fellow Cefn youngster Roy Cardus.
In the summer of 2004, Gareth joined the Dragons on a free transfer.
[edit] Wrexham Career
Gareth spent his first two full seasons at The Racecourse mainly in the Pontin's Holidays League reserve team. However, he was an unused substitute on four occasions in the last two seasons.
In May 2006, he was initially released by the club, but returned later in the summer. During pre-season, he has marked Robbie Fowler upon coming on as a substitute against Liverpool, played against Manchester City and impressed on a tour of Northern Ireland.
Gareth may get a chance in Wrexham's squad after the departure of Trinidad & Tobago International Dennis Lawrence to Swansea City for £25,000 after making his League debut in the match against Stockport County at Edgeley Park on 16th September 2006.
Unfortunately for Gaz, it was a baptism of fire as the Dragons lost 5-2.
