The Gardiners Creek Trail is a shared use path for cyclists and pedestrians which follows the Gardiners Creek through the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
[edit] Connections
The westernmost end of the trail is a short ride from the Yarra River. It connects with a bike path which runs along the Alamein railway line, and on its easternmost end to Wurudjeri Walk in Blackburn South, and Blacks Walk in Blackburn (which itself connects to Blackburn Lake park).
[edit] Description
The path begins at Glenferrie Rd, near Scotch College, and Kooyong Railway Station (on the Glen Waverley line); between the suburbs of Toorak, Hawthorn, and Kooyong. The path snakes along Gardiners Creek, near the South Eastern Freeway, to East Malvern Railway Station. At this point, riders can continue north along the Alamein line, south-east to Warrigal Road (to near Chadstone Shopping Centre). The distance between Solway Street in Ashburton (near Alamein) and Warrigal Road is one of the remaining gaps in the path, though cycling pressure group Bicycle Victoria has put pressure on local government to link the two sections of track via a path through Malvern Public Golf Course. There is at present, however, a path from near Alamein station, via Markham Avenue and Victory Blvd, a track connecting the two sections.
East of Warrigal Road, the path continues northeast through Ashwood Reserve to High Street Road, and then north (near Ashwood College) through Gardiners Reserve to Highbury Road. Across a nearby pedestrian crossing, the path continues north to the south of the intersection of McIntyre Street, Elgar Road, and Burwood Highway (near Presbyterian Ladies' College).
From Burwood Highway (near the Burwood Campus of Deakin University, east of Elgar Road), the path continues to the north-east along Gardiners Creek to Station Street (near the Box Hill Golf Club). Riders interested in riding along Wurrudjerri Walk can reach this bike path by travelling east along Eley Road, then north along Middleborough Road to Fulton Road (Wurrudjerri Walk, and its connecting paths, extend to Blackburn Road near Forest Hill Chase Shopping Centre). Alternatively, riders can continue to travel northwest along Gardiners Creek, around a recently opened section through Box Hill Golf Course, to the intersection of Canterbury and Middleborough Roads in Box Hill South. Continuing north along Middleborough Road through R.H.L. Sparks Reserve to Albion Road, the path continues east along Blacks Walk / the Blackburn Creeklands reserve to Blackburn Road. Riders may either continue across Blackburn Road and along either Alandale Road or Jeffrey Street to the Blackburn Lake (and its Sanctuary), or alternatively may wish to travel north to Blackburn Station and Blackburn.
