Games of the Small States of Europe

The Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE) (Jeux des Petits Etats d'Europe, Giochi dei Piccoli Stati D'Europa, Smáþjóðaleikar Evrópu, Juegos de los Pequeños Estados de Europa) is a biannual multi-sport event, that has been organized by the National Olympic Committees of eight European small states, since 1985.

Countries that are represented by autonomous National Olympic Committees, are located in Europe, and which have a population of less than one million are eligible to participate. The participating countries are Andorra, Cyprus, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco and San Marino, all of which have participated since the first Games in 1985. The Faeroe Islands, although already recognized by FIFA, is seeking recognition by the IOC for the purpose of participating in these games. With its 2006 declaration of independence, Montenegro could also meet the eligibility requirements.

In Andorra 2005 the sporting disciplines were athletics, basketball, cycling, judo, shooting, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, and volleyball. Other versions of the Games have also included bocci, squash, and sailing.
