GAME FREAK, Inc. (ゲームフリーク Gēmu Furīku?) is the Japanese video game developer behind the Pokémon series of RPGs, as well as several other games. It is a second-party developer for Nintendo.
The company was founded on April 26, 1989 by Satoshi Tajiri (田尻智 Tajiri Satoshi?). In honor of the founder, the lead character in the Japanese version of the Pokémon TV series was named Satoshi (Ash Ketchum in the English dub).
Their most popular RPG series, Pokémon, is published by Nintendo in Japan, North America and Europe. Pokémon is formally known as Pocket Monsters (ポケットモンスター Poketto Monsutā?) in Japan, and the abbreviation Pokémon (ポケモン?) is derived from the Japanese spelling.
Game Freak has recently released Drill Dozer, an all new game for Game Boy Advance, and released Diamond and Pearl, the versions of Pokémon for the Nintendo DS, in October 2006
