[edit] What Badges?

Is this page just for the world crest emblem or for any badge? schyler 02:10, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

This page is for just what it says at the top, the National Scout emblem of Scouting and Guiding organizations. This is not for national corporate logos, branding, highest ranks or other insignia, which can be found at individual nations' Scouting articles. It is acceptable to add earlier variants of national emblems to show historical progression. Chris 02:13, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] naming and historic images

Brother Jergen, first, thank you for your great work and energy!

I have two things I want to point out-it is one thing to have to rename the articles on the en.wiki to match English convention, we don't need to rename the assocations in this gallery.

Also, before you remove the historic images, please explain why you want to do so. I think it is interesting to show the progression over time. I am replacing some things until you reply. Chris 01:55, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

Sorry for not explaining my changes:
  • I removed the historic emblems due to the size of this gallery. Without DSL it takes some minutes to load the side. Also I think the development of emblems can better be shown in the respective articles. I started this in Federación de Escultismo en España and Luxembourg Boy Scouts Association.
  • If I changed any name to its English version instead of the national form, this wasn't intended.
Yesterdays main aim was to fix poor or very small images. Today I'll work systematically throug the list. --jergen 07:58, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
Removed historic badges are:
Image:Angola.jpg, Image:Bahr.jpg, Image:--ScoutsChris3.jpg, Image:--FranceScoutSdF.gif, Image:Indtrim.jpg, Image:--Nipponoldrank.jpg, Image:--Lithuanianational.gif, Image:--Nyasaland.jpg, Image:SWA.jpg
All of these are still used in the articles on the associations. Please understand: I don't want to delete the images, but the List is really large and will still grow, when we include all missing WAGGGS emblems. --jergen 09:34, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
Jergen, that's great, but please use slightly different names when you overwrite a national emblem if the emblem is visibly different. It is great that you use the same name if the emblem you find is much better than my original, so long as it is the same emblem. I worked really hard to get the Moroccan one to come out nice, and now it's gone.

Chris 01:26, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

I was able to get back the Moroccan historic one, have labeled it so on the page, please upload the new variant under a new name? Thanks, brother. Chris 01:34, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Update using [1]

Today I worked my way through pages 1 to 3. --jergen 09:35, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

You are a good man, my friend, sorry I can't get to it myself until Saturday. I would argue that the one for Ireland doesn't belong there, as it is a corporate logo, and not an emblem. What do Irish Scouts wear as a fleur-de-lis now? Chris 01:40, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
I really don't know, having not met Irish Scouts the past years but I've heard that virtually nothing did change after the merger.
As far as I know, some more of the pictures are the logos/brands of the associations and not the emblem - even if they show the fleur-de-lis, eg Australia, Lebanon, New Zealand, Oman ... It's quite hard to tell, especially in countries with federations. Often, these dont have an emblem of their own and their members use that of the respective association (Italy, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg). In that case I'd propose to include the corporate logo (if existing) instead of all emblems. --jergen 13:56, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
Ireland:
I just checked some Irish scouting pages. The main emblem on their uniform is the World Crest, but the corporate logo is widely used on Scouting items, even on the official pants. --jergen 14:18, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
I just think it's ugly, like the Venezuela corporate logo, there has to be something dignified the Scouts wear on their uniforms. Chris 01:05, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
Bah, Venezuela's logo is really awful. But you shouldn't miss ours: [2]. I'm really happy for not having to wear it on my uniform. --jergen 08:48, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] countries that WOSM says use the World Crest

WOSM states in Scouting 'Round the World that the national badges don't always use the same badge as the local variants. If we go by that logic, then all the grey emblems would then become purple emblems, and that is not really reflective of what the local Scouts wear. Somewhere in my collection I have the badge Mexico really wears, I will scan it up. My preference is not to duplicate the generic WOSM badge over and over again. Chile and the Netherlands are different, because they have modified the badge or colors somewhat. Chris 19:58, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

ACK --jergen 08:09, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
Ack? You met my Wife? :) (She always used to say that) Why ack? Chris 21:03, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
ACK, better Acknowledge character. I'm with you on this... --jergen 06:50, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] next project

We need to tag each emblem with the organization it is aligned to, after the country name. Chris 17:45, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
