Galaxy Birmingham is a regional radio station owned by the Chrysalis Group as part of its Galaxy Network of stations specialising in dance music and R'n'B. It is based in Birmingham. The studio is at 111 Broad Street in Birmingham, housed in the same building as Chrysalis-owned 100.7 Heart fm. The FM transmitter is at Metropolitan House (1 Hagley Road) on the A456. It is available on DAB, through the MXR 12A West Midlands multiplex (eight transmitters). Digital broadcasts are strongest from The Wrekin and Ilmington in south Warwickshire.
The station's former name, Choice FM, took over the local Birmingham licence of Buzz FM, which broadcast on 102.4. Choice FM was taken over by the Chrysalis Group in January 1999, who changed the station's name. This is the reason that Galaxy Birmingham would appear to be skewed towards RnB as opposed to dance, which is the case on other Galaxy stations and its digital radio service.
The show which attracts the most listeners is the Breakfast Show with Dan Kelly, Goldenballs and Jess. Every morning they send out a man called Webbo to do "stunts".
2006 saw Galaxy 102.2 renamed Galaxy Birmingham in line with the rest of the Galaxy stations across the UK.
