Galadhon

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Galadhon is a fictional character of J. R. R. Tolkien, who appears only in the Unfinished Tales. He is called the son of Elmo, who was named as the younger brother of Thingol; Galadhon would thus be the nephew of Thingol and cousin of LĂșthien. He was essentially created to explain how Celeborn was supposed to be related to Thingol; according to the Tales, Celeborn was the son of Galadhon, making Thingol Celeborn's great-nephew. Galadhon was supposed to have another son, Galathil, who was the father of Nimloth; Nimloth would go on to marry her second-cousin, Dior.

Later writings of Tolkien's provide a different origin for Celeborn, thus it cannot be ascertained if Galadhon can be considered a canon character. His name seems to be related to the Sindarin word for "tree," galadh.
