Galactik Football - The Flux

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Flux is incredible when in action, allowing players to perform amazing feats of acrobatic and athletic prowess. It is portrayed in Galactik Football as a constantly shifting aura around the person using it, and although it's primary use is for physical enhancement (i.e. increased speed and strength), it can be used in many other ways.

According to what is mentioned in the series, each Flux is formed according to the nature, geology and even the shape of a planet.
Example, the exposion that hit Akillian and started the Ice Age also shifted it's planetary axis, which caused most to believe that The Breath had disappeared. Also, it seems that certain Fluxes can be used by anyone on the team, even if they weren't born on that planet.
For example, Sinedd of Akilian using the Smog from Planet Shadow.

Although players are able to control foreign Fluxes, they are usually seen falling ill when they overuse it, the mix most likely being too much for their body.

Until the Great Peace, the fluxes (or fluids) were used as weapons of war. However after this point their use was forbidden in all fields except sports. It is the responsibility of the Flux Society to ensure that the Flux is used responsbily and only in the realm of Galactik Football. So far, these are the only known Fluxes, as well as their planets of origin :

[edit] Teams Without A Flux

The following teams do not have Flux, or have never displayed any form of Flux at all:

  • The Pirates: a fair-play team which uses several gadgets, although hardly used at all during football.
  • The Red Tigers: the previous team after the Ice Age which represented Akilian, but never made it into the tournament.
  • Team Technoid: being robotic and capable of calculating the ball's route, they have no need for the Flux.

[edit] The Breath

The Breath in action

Found on Planet Akilian and used by the Snow Kids as well as the former players, like Aarch. It is a soft blue-white color in nature, and usually makes a dull humming noise when active. At first only Tia could use it and once tapped into it accidentally during try-outs if only for a little while, but by the middle of the series all of the Snow Kids were able to control its power.

Some have used it in unique ways:

Rocket can use it to grab the ball between his feet and then spin away from multiple opponents in quick sucession, pressumably representing his name-sake.
D'Jok has used it to push the ball towards a goal, almost like telekinesis during a Ryker's match when the goal keeper used Metal Yell to slow the ball down.
Thran once made a shield out of the Breath to block opposing players from passing the ball past him, when the shield shattered, it behaved so like ice breaking.
Tia has manipulated the Breath to perform several acrobatic manouveres in the air, usually sending the ball halfway across the pitch.

[edit] The Metal Yell

Used by the Rykers from Planet Unadar, a world of metal and pollution.
Yellow in color, the Ryker players can shape it into a physical form for some highly intense physical attacks. For example:

When Tia jumped up to intercept the ball, in the Snow Kids' first match against the Rykers, two opposing players jumped in front of her and knocked her out of the air with two powerful blasts of Metal Yell before knocking her over once again with their weight.
The Ryker's goalkeeper, later, hit the ball with a blast of Metal Yell, and made it slow down to a gradual stop in the palm of her hand.

It's called metal yell due to the fact that when ever the Rykers use it they always scream in their eery metallic voice. This can also distract their opponents' attention.

[edit] The Smog

The Flux of the Shadows from Planet Shadow, a world that seems to reside inside a large crystal planet.
It manifests as a twisting cloud of shadows that encircles the player, and can allow the player using it to teleport short distances, although the limit of this technique is yet to be known.
The most preferred tactic of the Shadows is to run head on at a player and then teleport just as their about to hit, disorientating the opposing player while they vanish with the ball. It should be noted that there have been other players not native to Planet Shadow that have used the Smog:

Aarch from Akilliaan, along with his team mate Artegor could use the Smog, but during a match against the Cyclopses, Aarch suddenly became ill and collapsed, coughing and wheezing, claiming that the smog was making him sick.
Later Sinedd, taken in by Artegor, is also seen using the Smog to a high level. But during a one-on-one Duel with D'Jok, it is seen that he too is apparently beginning to suffer from the affects of the Smog's toxicity.

[edit] The Roar

Used by the Wambas on Planet Wamba, a tropical type planet.
Reddish orange in color, the Wambas use it for some spectacular acrobatic stunts, like grabbing the ball and somersaulting past between two opposing players, as seen in the Snow Kid's first friendly match against them.

Again, it's named according to the sound the players make when using it, namely a deep lion's roar.

One of the Wambas favourite tactics when using their Flux is to send the ball sky-high and to leap high and snatch it out of the air to score.

[edit] The Charge

Used by The Lightnings, planet unknown at the time.
Their Flux manifests as sparks of electricity, or streaks of white light tinted slightly blue. The players look like tall, well-built men, blue and slightly robotic in nature. The most common feature of their Flux is the ability to move at incredible speeds, literally streaking from one point to the other across the field.

In a match shown with them against the Shadows, the Charge seemed to be on par with the Smog's teleport ability, allowing the Lightnings to easily match them move for move.

[edit] The Cyclopses'

Small green aliens with one eye, these players use the flux mentally opposed to physically. According to the Jetix site, they can mentally control the ball as well as read players minds and confuse them with beams from their eyes. Although the latter has been seen in the series, the other two have yet to be seen. But it was shown against the Shadows in the semi finals when Sinedd was against the goalkeeper. The goalkeeper used the flux giving sinedd a headache and making him lose the ball. The flux is a green colour and is a shape of a circle.

[edit] Meta-Flux

There is another Flux called The Meta-Flux, a syntheticly created Flux made for the use of the Technoid team by Sonny BlackBones and Clamp when they were still scientists working at the Technoid Inc. Original suppose to allow the Technoid Droids to play as well as humans, the Technoid General Bleylock saw it's use for military purposes when he learned that the Flux was undetectable. However, Sonny ran away with the Meta-Flux to Akilliaan, only to let it fall of the edge of a building and hit the ground where it exploded and caused the ice age to begin. The Meta-Flux survived though, inside the kids that later became the players of the Snow Kids (except Sinedd). It was later discovered that the Meta-Flux was tied with the Breath, in other words the stronger The Breath, the stronger the Meta-Flux. Whether or not it helped the kids to grow to such a strong level of Flux is still being debated. Later it was discovered that the Meta-Flux was killing the Snow Kids, poisoning them whenever they used The Breath, due to the bond between the two Fluxes and the Meta-Flux's synthetic nature over the Breath's natural origins. It was feared that removing it would also remove The Breath, but fortunately it was not the case. Currently the Meta-Flux is back in the hands of Sonny, but whether or not he has destroyed it is unknown.
