Gaius Rubellius Blandus

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gaius Rubellius Blandus (d. 38) was a consul of ancient Rome, a grandson of Rubellius Blandus of Tibur. Blandus' family were from the Equestrian class.

Blandus was a moneyer in 4 BC; Quaestor in AD 1; Tribune in 6; Praetor in 11; Consul in 18 and African Proconsul in 36. After 32, he married Julia, daughter of Livilla and Drusus Julius Caesar (Tacitus, Ann. 6. 27. 1). Their children included Gaius Rubellius Plautus, who was considered as a rival to Nero, and a daughter Rubellia Bassa. Juvenal (Satire VIII . 39) suggests another son, also named Gaius Rubellius Blandus.
