Gair, Gair, Conason, Steigman & Mackauf is a law firm located at 80 Pine Street, in the Wall Street financial district of Manhattan, New York City. It was originally founded by Harry A. Gair and Harriet Gair as Gair & Gair.Harry Gair's formal education ended after the eigth grade. From then on he was self educated and passed the New York State Bar examination in 1919. He went on to become the pre-eminent plaintiff's trial lawyer in New York in the area of personal injury law. He was, in fact, considered the country's outstanding practitioner in the field of negligence or personal injury law. When he died in 1975, his protege, Robert Conason, became managing partner of the firm and continues in that role to the present [1], [2]. In 2004 the firm won a $3 million settlement from the city for the death of Amadou Diallo. They represented his estate, led by Diallo's mother Kadiatou. Today, they have approximately twenty attorneys.
