This is a British three pin plug and socket. The plug contains a fuse rated at a maximum of 13A. Sockets usually have shutters covering the live and neutral connections which are pushed aside by the longer earth pin when the plug is inserted. It is wired as shown at en:Image:Three pin mains plug (UK).png
