FuturixImager is an image viewer for Windows created by Alexander Tereshchenko. First released in the end of 1999, it has since been completely rewritten several times (in versions 1.1, 1.5, 2.0, and unreleased GPL-ed 3.0) and currently enjoys relative popularity in Europe and Latin America.

[edit] Interesting facts about FuturixImager

FuturixImager was the first image viewer with "open" plug-in system (with ability to extend program available for third-party developers). Since then plug-in system was expanded and now supports plug-ins written in both Pascal/Delphi and C++ (originally only Delphi was supported). It seems that extensibility is one of the main features of the software: not only it is possible to add support for new file formats, but also editing capabilities, new languages support and GUI styles.

Imager was downloaded at least four million times (source: developer's web-site).

Before version 5.5 program was called Futuris Imager, but it was renamed because of trademark issues; there are several companies that use Futuris in the name, including Australian ISP and US financial fund.

Initial version of Futuris Imager 3.0 was a complete rewrite and an open source project (using GPL license), however after two GPL violations and lack of public support for the project it was closed and development of proprietary versions resumed with version 2.5 following soon.

Development of Futuris Imager was on hold in second half of 2002 and entire 2003 (between versions 2.6 and 3.0).

FuturixImager written using Borland Delphi, with some parts in C++ (using Visual C++).

FuturixImager is one of the few image viewers that are free for both personal and commercial uses (most other freeware viewers like IrfanView or XnView require licensing for commercial usage).
