Talk:Furyan
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Riddick is NOT the only surviving Furyan - the Purifier is also from Furya.
ALSO...has anyone seen dark fury? was one of the statues of the "frozen" people a furyan? i thought there was a sign that said that. wouldn't that mean that there are three furyans? riddick, the guy working for the necromongers, and the poor statue guy (who is alive)?
should that be included in the entry?
- While I loved the film (essentially a cross between Flash Gordon and Conan the Barbarian, what's not to like?) it was pretty ridiculous that the High Marshal, knowing he would be killed by a Furyan - had one as his Purifier. That probably the most stupid plot development in the whole movie.
-
- I always thought that the Lord Marshalnever knew his Purifier was a Furyan.
-
-
- I also was under the impression that the Lord Marshal never had any idea that his Purifier was a Furyan. Fact that's exactly what it is. Remember when the Lord Marshall orderd he's lackies to kill "The riddick" and the Purifier released Riddick from that awesome magnetic like structure he was bound to, during the psychic's evaluation of him. Which in turn, causes his escape. I'd say this is concrete evidence to support the fact that the Lord Marshall has little to no idea of his Purifiers distinctive heritage.
-
For the record I think the acctual myth goes that Riddick is the only KNOWN survivor of the masacre of Furyia. The fact is; is that the writings just haven't spoke throughly of other Furyian survivors, and if it has they've been cast-off characters that hold no great relivance to the story. But don't kid yourself, it's better that way.
it looks like the purifier was a preacher in furyan's warrior race myths but faced with hard decision to die or be converted in the ruthless necromonger's faith serving as an example to the future would-be converters
- The Purifier may also not be considered a Furyan anymore but a Necromonger instead. At the end he regains his senses but he was definitly working for the Lord Marshal before that. --Saphyr333 18:54, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Eyes
"In the movie Pitch Black and in the game The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, Riddick says that his eyes (he can see in the dark and needs pitch black goggles to see in plain light) were implanted on a prison planet, but the novelization claims that they are natural. He may have been trying to hide his past."
The second sentence seems to suggest that there is no continuity problem here, but there's factual mistake in the first sentence. In Escape from Butcher Bay, Riddick doesn't say that his eyes were implanted, but rather they are actually implanted during the course of the game. I'll change the article to reflect this. - "It has also been said that Furyans will gain the ability to see in the dark and other powers after they have killed several people and become an alpha Furyan. When angry or upset Furyans can use their energy as a weapon. Riddick gains the "eyeshine" in the Butcher Bay prison naturally, but uses a doctor he met as an excuse to hide his true past."
- Does anyone know who is doing the saying in the first sentence? If anyone who has read the novel reads this, they could clarify this bit so this doesn't sound like someone's pet theory. CarlosCoppola 22:49, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
- His eyes aren't implanted during the game, it just sort of... happens. WookMuff 08:25, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
i got my own theory the eyes were implanted, but the success of the surgery was blessed from his spiritual guide shyra83.130.113.250 22:44, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] "The" Alpha Furyan
In the extra features of the DVD, it states that Riddick becomes "THE Alpha Furyan," which appears to be a title of sorts, but I've been seeing it used as if any Furyan can become an Alpha. Someone clear this up. BishopTutu 03:44, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
- Rampant OR here... I think of it as being like a supersaiyan, like you unlock your hidden furyan potential or something... but thats just my own pet theory :) WookMuff 10:54, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, but what im askin is if its a title, like being the leader and "chief" of the Furyans or something. Thats what i interpret it as, but i want to know if its used differently in the novelization. If not, then its more than likely a simple title. BishopTutu 19:33, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
- Oh, i haven't read the novelization, sorry. But if it IS something that kicks in after you kill a certain amount of people, i doubt it would make you king of the furyans WookMuff 01:30, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
The Alpha Furyan is the strongest and most powerful Furyan; I found that out on the DVD. BishopTutu 01:46, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
