Train services are primarily operated by First TransPennine Express between Barrow-in-Furness and Lancaster or Manchester. From Lancaster the trains use the West Coast Main Line and then follow the Manchester-Preston Line from Preston. In addition, local services are operated by Northern Rail between Lancaster and Barrow, with some continuing to Sellafield or Carlisle via the Cumbrian Coast Line.
