Funboard
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A funboard is a type of surfboard which combines elements of both shortboards and longboards. It is generally midsized, usually 7 to 8 feet. The funboard's design allows it to catch waves more easily than a shortboard, yet with a shape that makes it more maneuverable than a longboard; hence it is a popular type of surfboard, especially among beginners, or those transitioning from longboarding to the more difficult shortboarding. This makes it the best combination in most people's view due to the combintion of the speed of a shortboard and the maneuverability of a longboard.
Similarly the description funboard in windsurfing is used to describe boards that are possible to learn the basics on and have sufficient performance for intermediates. Consequently, they are between raceboards (longboards) and slalom (shortboards) in size.
The description "funboard" originated because the term is readily understandable in the principle markets of the sports such as U.S., UK, Germany and France.
