Fun People is a melodic hardcore band formed in Argentina in 1989 by Sebastián Garay, Julian Pogiese, Carlos A.K.A "Nekro" Rodrigues (also known as "Boom Boom Kid"), and Lucas Sequiera. The band was originally named "Anesthesia" as a tribute to Cliff Burton and his song "anesthesia pulling teeth", which now is the name of their first album. They renamed themselves "Fun People" following legal problems with their original name. Fun People toured Europe in 2000 but disbanded the same year, and the band members are currently in solo careers:

Carlos "Nekro" Rodrigues (Fun People's singer) started his solo career as Boom Boom Kid.

Carlos "Gori" Loncharich (Fun People's guitar), created a new band called Fantasmagoria (in which he also became a singer).

Lucas Seqiera formed a new band called "Cucsifae".

The group realized a hit with the song "Masticar", from the album Kum Kum, released in 1996.

[edit] Origins, Ideals, Background

Fun People started to play within the context of the "Buenos Aires Hardcore" musical scene that existed in the late 1980s & early 1990s. However they became quite different from all the other bands of the scene. If almost every other band was trying to emulate the rude attitude of bands like Biohazard and Agnostic Front; Fun People was offering an absolutely different view:

Sometimes Nekro (singer) would assume the point of view of a woman in order to sing some songs (he used to sing: "Woman in these days / my ovaries are aching / my belly and my tits are aching" in the song "Woman in these days").

Whilst other songs like "Fuck Male Supremacy" were directly attacking the conservative way of dealing with the gender roles that the Buenos Aires Hardcore scene had ("Why women in the back and men in the front?" was asking that song -within the context of a scene in which the typical gig involved a violent pogo (dance) of males next to the stage and a group of women in the backside of the room who were trying to stay away from the violent pogo (dance)).

The band also used to quote Morrissey and The Smiths among their influences and adopted their Meat is Murder slogan in order to promote their vegetarian ideals.

Ecology, the right of legal abortion, animal rights, disarmament, non-violent action, feminism and gay rights were other issues that the band used to try to promote.
