Fullmetal vs. Flame (Japanese: 「焔VS鋼」 - Honō VS Hagane) is episode 13 of the Fullmetal Alchemist TV series originally aired 2003-12-27.
It’s time for Edward to report on his investigations to Colonel Mustang. Much to Ed's chagrin, Mustang appears to already know the brothers' recent movements in precise detail. Ed asks the Colonel if he knows anything about Dr. Tim Marcoh (an alchemical healer who helped cure a young girl in Xenotime of the red-water-induced plague), but Mustang denies knowing anything.
Führer King Bradley and his senior staff arrive at the Eastern HQ, ostensibly to make observations of the region. In truth, the Führer has brought his entourage with him because a serial killer dubbed "Scar" has been targeting State Alchemists back at Central. General Basque Gran interrupts Ed's conversation with Lt. Colonel Maes Hughes about Dr. Marcoh with the revelation that Dr. Marcoh was a State Alchemist who deserted during the Eastern Rebellion. Mustang still denies any knowledge of Marcoh, however.
Ed is also up for his annual recertification as a state alchemist. One way to gain recertification is to face another alchemist in a mock duel, with each using his particular alchemical skills. Hoping to get more information on Marcoh, Ed challenges Colonel Mustang to the duel. The Führer unexpectedly approves the challenge, saying it will be fun to watch. The match ends in a draw, and Mustang tells Ed that Dr. Marcoh is still alive and tells Ed where to find him.
Animation error: When Hawkeye shoots the wall around Black Hayate, six shots can be heard. However, immediately afterward, seven bullet holes can be seen on the wall.
