[edit] Synopsis
This drama attempts to answer the question of whether two people — a famous actor and an ordinary woman — can learn to love each other in a marriage agreed only on paper. It also explores the meaning of the family by presenting that no matter how hard the present may seem, the world is still a good place because of those who bring hopes into our lives through their presence alone.
This drama features diverse characters: considerate, caring, frank, patient, and sticking to life’s basic values. But no matter how different the personalities, everyone finds happiness in the end.
[edit] Storyline
A naive, cheerful, albeit somewhat reclusive writer, Ji Eun is swindled out of everything she owns — not by strangers, but her best friends! Stranded in another country, she is determined to get home, only to find that all which is precious to her has been sold. In an attempt to get her possessions back, she has to "sell her soul." A story about love and heartbreak, sadness and self-preservation. In spite of it all, Ji Eun manages to be humorous and endearing - even when her heart is breaking.
[edit] Characters
The names used in the Philippines are in parentheses.
- Jessie Han ~ Song Hye Gyo
- Han Ji Eun is an orphaned online novelist who lives in a beautiful house (called FULL HOUSE) she inherited from her parents. Her troubles started when her closest friends tricked her by sending her on a trip to Shanghai so they could sell her house behind her back. To top it off, they cleaned out her bank account, leaving her homeless and penniless when she got back to Korea.
Her house, as it turned out, was sold to the bratty and immature actor, Lee Young Jae. He offered to pay her and let her live in Full House in exchange for her services as a maid. Due to her desperate situation, Han Ji Eun was forced to accept the offer. But not long into her stay, Young Jae offered her to pose as his fiancee to allow Kang Hye Won, his childhood friend and crush, to be able to be with Min-Hyuk.
Ji Eun is cheerful, optimistic and loyal to her friends. She is naive and not very smart, but she makes up for it with her spunk and good heart. Her journey with Young Jae shows how much she loves and what she is willing to do to protect the people she loves.
- Justin Lee ~ Bi (Rain)
- He’s a famous actor and has money and fame. He deeply loves his childhood friend, Hae-won, even though she shows him no affection. One day, he stumbles upon Ji-eun and slowly falls in love with her.
Young-jae is one of the best Asian stars. He does his utmost not to hurt other people and not to be hurt himself. Every movie he starred in became a blockbuster. He is stubborn when it comes to selecting which movies to star in, but he has received much acclaim for his talent. Although Young-jae always behaves and speaks as he wants, he does that only to protect himself from being hurt and not to hurt others. People think of him as a very candid person, but that is also Young-jae’s strategy to hide himself – or rather his failure to express himself to the fullest. As one who is unaccustomed to being frank and open, Young-jae is bad at making friends and very proud of his ideals and principles.
- Lorraine Kang ~ Han Eun Jung
- She’s a fashion designer for Young-jae and his childhood friend. She likes Min-Hyuk and taken Young-jae’s love for her for granted.
Hae-won is the daughter of Doctor Lee's friend. She is a fashion designer, who designs Young-jae’s clothes. She has known Young-jae’s family since her childhood. Hye-won has lived her entire life in abundance and has had many choices. She comes from a rich family, and is accustomed to being loved. She has never been rejected by anybody, and only feels content when everybody around her loves her.
- Luigi Yoo ~ Kim Sung Soo
- He’s a nice and formal business man. Hae-won loves him though he rejects her instantly saying that she’s like a sister to him. Known to be a player, he is changed when he meets Ji-eun and realizes that she is something special.
Min-hyuk is a director of a large media company. He dreams of establishing Asia’s Walt Disney or Fox. This tenacious and smart guy is also respected and recognized for his skills. He is confident in earning trust from people. He has always been a winner, and is determined to remain one for the rest of his life. This good-looking guy possesses sophisticated manners and is very eloquent – a Prince Charming that any girl could dream of. Min-hyuk believes that life is too short to live it without fun. Although he looks to be light-minded, he is very affectionate inside. Unlike his seemingly unrestricted personality, he is very composed and prudent. He can’t stand losing and has a strong desire to win in everything, which probably explains his successful career.
[edit] Success in the Philippines
Full House is the second highest rating Koreanovela that aired in the Philippines by GMA Network. However, it failed to beat the average rating of 46% posted by Lovers in Paris which aired over ABS-CBN.
However, due to public demand Full House went to a full series replay aired daily afternoon before primetime newscast.
[edit] Filming location
Full House was filmed in the Gwangyeok-si area of Incheon. Located near Incheon International Airport, it's a ten-minute boat ride from Sammok Harbor to this quiet, seashore getaway. Unlike other filming locations in Korea, this is an actual house. Made mostly of wood, this house, which is a private-owned vacation house, cost approximately one million US dollars to build. The beachfront property looks out onto open waters, with elegant views that could be used on any postcard. Many fans of the miniseries make a pilgrimage to this now famous home. Nearby sightseeing locations include Jogak (sculpture) Park on Modo Island; a bridge connects these two islands. (Credited to Tour2 Korea)
Additional Info: The island that Full house is located in is called Shin-do or Si-Do island. It is about 10 to 20 minutes taxi ride from Incheon airport and then you have to ride a ferry to Sammock harbour. There you don't have to pay going to the island but instead pay on your way back. When you get off the ferry, ride a bus going to full house (its color blue) and you only have to pay 1,000 won. Then you get off and walk 1.5 kilometers to full house (if i were you, rent a bike to full house because it is really a long long long... long walk. Even my korean friend felt like it was an eternity to get there--- and koreans love to walk) In full house, you have to pay 3,000 won to get inside the house and tour around. The ferry leaves every hour--- 3:30 pm, 4:30 pm and so forth. You then have to walk back again to the bus stop and this time wait for the bus to arrive. Feel free to hitch a ride because the bus comes once in a blue moon. People there are generally friendly but you really have to brush up on your korean language know-how if you want to hitch a ride back to the harbour. In the harbour you pay to get back to the mainland and then walk a long way again to the bus stop to get back to Incheon airport where you have to transfer to an airport shuttle bus (free of charge). Suggestion is that you come early because what really takes time is waiting for the transportation to come and pick you up to where you want to go.
