Fryer (surname)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Frere/Freer/Fryer/Friar are common surnames.
A variety of speculative derivations and connections exist concerning the origins of this surname.
It is likely to originate from Friar another name for a monk. However there may also exist an etymological connection to druidic concept of Frith. Also due to its Dutch origins, this sir-name is most likely originally Norse and thereby related to or derived directly from the famous mytho-poetic Vanir hero-priesthood Freyja and Freyr, progenitors of the Scandinavian Yngling dynasty, whose history is extant in the 9th century poem Ynglingatal.
