Fruges
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Fruges is a commune and the chief town of a canton of northern France, in the Pas-de-Calais département, arrondissement of Montreuil.
Population (1999): 2,834 inhabitants for the commune and 7,050 inhabitants for the canton.
Set in a valley in not far from the historic battlefield of Azincourt, Fruges is a typical small country town in the Pas-de-Calais with a weekly market, agricultural suppliers, a Champion and various smaller stores. A little drab but not without its own sleepy charm.
An annual Fête des Géants livens up August with parades of enjoyably inept marching bands and papier mache giants.
