Genocide in Sudan The genocide in Darfur, Sudan is one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. It has been compared to that of Nazi Germany and the Holocaust, after which people said “never again”. Americans must then question why the U.S. government refuses to help stop these tragedies. Thousands of native Africans have been mercilessly slaughtered, raped, and robbed by the Janjaweed militia, and if everyone keeps turning a blind eye to these events, the death toll will continue to rise and the situation may become worse than the holocaust ever was. Darfur is among the most devastating crisis the world has ever seen. millions of families in Darfur, Sudan are dieing of disease, hunger, and dehydration. Sudan's dictator, Omar Al-Bashir, is continuing a brutal campaign of ethnic cleansing against blacks in the Darfur region of Sudan. Thousands of African people in Darfur are killed each day. Women are raped, men are shot dead, and young children are left parentless to fend for themselves. Armed Sudanese men break into orphanages and young girls are sold into prostitution. There are diseases spreading across Africa that most of the world has never even heard of before. Poverty is prevalent throughout almost all of the African towns and villages. These people are desperately in need of help. The children are the future. They are taught that everyone is equal, and the dreadful outcomes of genocide. History is taught to ensure that earlier mistakes never repeat themselves. Much time is spent learning about the Holocaust especially. Yet genocide still occurs in Sudan between the Sudanese and the black Africans. It is amazing how the U.S. government has not learned from these teachings and do not step in to stop these disasters. America has proven time and time again that with their help, other countries devastations can be much more easily abolished. During the Holocaust, for example, the United States sent troops over to Europe and helped liberate the concentration camps. Without this added help, the outcome of Nazi Germany probably would have been greater and much more devastating. America turned a blind eye to the Holocaust during that time too, and now regrets waiting so long to provide help. If George Bush continues to wait, then American children will one day be learning about Darfur as well, and how it could have been stopped if it was not for American unawareness.
