[edit] Portmanteau?
Is "Froogle" really a portmanteau? Isn't it really just an intentionally idiosyncratic misspelling of "Frugal", much in the same way that "Google" is a misspelling of "googol"? --DropDeadGorgias (talk) 20:15, May 17, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] International
I know there is a US froogle site and that there is NO Australian froogle site, but what about the others, like a .co.uk, or do they have it in france or papuagy? JayKeaton 16:55, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] google god
With it's biblical font, just showing a big fat G everywhere on the internet it is clear that the name of the ultimate search engine Google was chosen with a hope to get confused with the name "God". That choice of name would however be too conceited so right before the actual announcement of the name it was changed. However by that moment the first two letters had already been announced: "Go", the hesitation made the 'o' prolonged and the less heroic name Google popped up.
Froogle is then supposed to be pronounced with "od" (like "od" is pronounced in god) instead of with "oogle". So we end up with a name that sounds a lot like "fraud" which is exactly what the digitalhippie conspiracy behind google thinks about their and everyone else's evil commersial services.

- Excuse me, but this is an encyclopedia, 193.10.185.3 - not a soapbox on which to spout your own views. What does the comparison between Google and God have to do in this article? Keep it in your diary or blog, and most certainly not on Wikipedia. –- kungming·2 | (Talk·Contact) 06:49, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
I speak the truth! Isn't wikipedia supposed to deliver that?! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 193.10.185.3 (talk • contribs).
- This reminds me of an SAT essay I had to write - it stated that people will have differing opinions of the truth. That happens all the time, and therefore, 193.10.185.3, Wikipedia tries to present the most acceptable form of the truth to most people. I don't think most people think that Google's name came from "God" - unless you're afraid they're being blasphemous and trying to take over the world - also, it would help if you read a few books on Google's history and how their name came about. The truth - what if someone stated that all pizzas grew on trees and said that it is the truth! –- kungming·2 | (Talk·Contact) 07:00, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
Books lie! Books go through a cencorship filter of publishers who wishes to achive world dominance by mindcontroll of the masses through regulation of the information flow. Now, however, when (almost) everyone knows about this type of cencorship filter the publishers have to aim at the medium of communication that truly is free, that is the internets. Google is so far the most effective project to reintroduce this publisher filter (there can be more!), and that is also why it was almost named "God". —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 193.10.185.3 (talk • contribs).
- I see that there is no use trying to mollify you - obviously you are quite "worried" about the world as you see it and nothing anyone else says will be of use. But unless you can provide proof (other than from yourself) that the creators of Google intended it to be a play or pun on "God", you theory is merely that - a theory without evidence to help it. –- kungming·2 | (Talk·Contact) 05:46, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
- I have been asked by Kungming2 (as a friend and fellow editor) to check the appropriateness of your idea. Your idea has no evidence to prove itself (besides the coincidence of the use of the letters "Go" being the first two letters of Google and God). In addition, the idea violates two wikipedia policies, the NPOV and the What Wikipedia is not policies. Please refrain from posting such thoeries without evidence. --Typer525 Talk Click here at your own risk 22:36, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
