[edit] Gameplay
The gameplay of Front Mission is very similar to other Squaresoft strategy games such as Final Fantasy Tactics. There is terrain of different heights, and each attack is turn based. Players can use various attacks based on their range from their enemies and their equipment.
[edit] Front Mission 1st
Seven years after its first release on the SNES, in 2002 the game was released for the Wonderswan Color. In 2003, the game was remade as Front Mission 1st for the PlayStation. A remake of the PlayStation game is currently in development for the Nintendo DS and will be released in the winter of 2006 in Japan. If the game will also see a Western release, it will be the first time the original Front Mission game is published in English.
Front Mission 1st will include a character from Front Mission 5: Scars of the War. Battle sequences are being tuned to use the DS's dual screen setup for an easy view of the action.
[edit] Story
OCU army members Sakata, Lloyd, and his fiancée, Karen, entered a place prohibited by the USN. An USN officer, Driscol, caught them and killed Karen. Sakata and Lloyd were discharged for breaking the treaty and causing war between the OCU and UNS. Later, they are hired as mercenaries by Gen. Olson for a special mission, and Lloyd seeks revenge for his loved one. Front Mission First has the biggest cast with over 32 playable characters. You can find them in the bars and colosseums, or sometimes you need to rescue them.
