From Under the Cork Tree is the third full length album by Fall Out Boy and their major label debut on Island Records, released on May 3, 2005 (see 2005 in music). The title is taken from a line in the book The Story of Ferdinand by Munro Leaf.

The album cover features a van with a trailer in a bank of snow. This is a reference to their accident that took place while on the way to New York to film the video for "Grand Theft Autumn/Where Is Your Boy" from their 2003 album Take This to Your Grave.

The first single was "Sugar We're Goin' Down", and the follow-up was "Dance, Dance," both of which became high-charting hits, with "Dance, Dance" becoming a bit more popular than its predecessor. The third single is "A Little Less Sixteen Candles, a Little More 'Touch Me'".

The Limited "Black Clouds and Underdogs" Edition was released in December of 2005, featuring three new songs, remixes of "Sugar, We're Goin' Down" and "Dance, Dance", and on the iTunes-exclusive version, their respective music videos.

On March 14, 2006, a separate version of the album was released entitled From Under the Cork Tree (Limited "Black Clouds and Underdogs" Edition). This consisted of a total 18 tracks, the first 13 being the same as the original release.

  • It has been previously reported that the song "Our Lawyers Made Us Change the Name of This Song So We Wouldn't Get Sued" was called "I Liked You a Whole Lot Better Before You Became a Fucking MySpace Whore" before Fall Out Boy's lawyers intervened and made them change the title. The song was actually originally called "My Name is David Ruffin... And These Are The Temptations." [1] While the lawyers did indeed suggest a title change, "I Liked You a Whole Lot Better Before You Became a Fucking MySpace Whore" is a completely different track, which Pete Wentz promises will be put on Infinity on High (possibly with a title change as well due to legal reasons). [2]
  • The song "Nobody Puts Baby in the Corner" seems to be taken from a Dirty Dancing quote spoken by Johnny Castle (played by Patrick Swayze).
  • The song "Champagne For My Real Friends, Real Pain For My Sham Friends" is taken from a quote by Francis Bacon.
  • The song "The Music or the Misery," is taken from a line in the movie High Fidelity ("Which came first, the music or the misery?")
  • Another song entitled "Hand of God" was presumably recorded during the Cork Tree sessions. Although it was cut from the album, the demo has been leaked onto file-sharing sites.
  • In the song "I Slept With Someone From Fall Out Boy and All I Got Was This Stupid Song Written About Me" the screaming vocals are done by Chad Gilbert of New Found Glory.
  • The abbreviation of the album itself is "F.U.C.T." (said as "fucked"). During promotions for the album the band would say to "go get F.U.C.T.!"
