[edit] Origins

The show was created by 70/30 Productions, the same animators who worked on Sealab 2021. The show's original name was to be called "Whiskey Tango". There was already a band using the name, so to prevent legal action, the show's name was changed to "Whiskey Tango Six". However, this name was not legally distinct, so the creators jokingly said they would call the show "Frisky Dingo", and the name stuck.

According to an article in Atlanta Magazine, Whiskey Tango Six was going to be the name of the super hero group that the show focused on, a group of 6 armor wearing super heroes, headed up by husband and wife Jack and Grace Taggart. The team flew around in a spaceship called the Glennis. Killface was going to be the main villain but not a major character. During revisions of the shows scripts, Killface became the focus of the show. It is not known when Whiskey Tango Six was replaced with Xander Crews/Awesome X and the X-tacles.[2]

[edit] Plot

The premiere episode deals primarily with the villains in the show. The head antagonist is Killface, a large muscular space creature with an English accent whose disgust with Earth has led to his plans to eradicate it. The means of this destruction, "The Annihilatrix", is a large rocket that he intends to use to propel the Earth into the Sun. Much of the show's humor is derived from Killface's small-time status as a criminal mastermind. Killface faces technical difficulties, budget issues, and his own ego. Most of this episode focuses on his attempts to successfully market himself and the destruction of the planet. It also introduces his allies. His son Simon is a junior-high-school student with a penchant for mainstream hip-hop and sugary breakfast cereals, and a ridiculously soft, mumbling speech pattern that few of the other characters can understand. Trent, Brent, and Valerie are a stereotypical marketing team that Killface kidnaps to help him spread his message of destruction. Of this team, only Valerie survives the episode, as Killface's temper clouds his judgment, causing him to slaughter Trent and Brent in turn. Valerie, quite inexplicably, becomes a geisha as the episode ends at the hands of Sinn. Sinn seems to be the most capable character as far as the show's villains are concerned. A bald woman with a revealing neckline, a cyborg arm, and a no-nonsense attitude, she carries out Killface's orders with ruthless efficiency.

Meanwhile, famous superhero Awesome-X (Xander Crews), has just defeated his last arch-nemesis, and is faced with the grim prospect of retirement as multi-billionaire captain of industry and owner of the Crews Company. Xander incidentally spends the X-tacle's entire budget when he bribes a hooker to whom he accidentally revealed his identity. In a bid to maintain his alter ego, Xander converts all his factories to producing Awesome-X action figures - but there's a problem. With no arch-nemesis, nobody will buy his action figures. All that changes when Crews receives a postcard from Killface proclaiming mankind's destruction. Crews sets his plans to market Killface as a suitable villain for Awesome-X, beginning with the popular talk show Live with Mitzi and Verl, the hosts of which discuss his postcards on the air with rapper / actor Taqu'il. Killface is thrilled at the exposure. Valerie, his sole remaining marketing staffer, manages to get him an interview on the show in between her new duties as his geisha. Killface's interview doesn't go quite as he planned, as it turns out the hosts have nowhere near as much interest in his plan to drive the Earth into the Sun as they do in promoting the new Scion tC. After having any words he can manage to get in edgewise turned into a pitch for Scion by Mitzi and Verl, Killface storms off the show in disgust, not even happy with his gift bag. The X-tacles happily drive past him in the alley in their new Scion, splashing him with a mud puddle. Killface continues to experience setbacks in his plan for Earth's destruction as he needs another 12 billion to complete the Annihilatrix. Furthermore, Killface's stuff has been repossessed by a Chinese business owner (Head of the dry-cleaning business 'Mao Say Clean') whom Killface contracted the printing of the postcards to for the price of sixty-four thousand. In the meantime, Xander initiates part two of his plan to get a licensing agreement from Killface (Operation Snooperfax). One way or another, Crews places a fax machine with a hidden camera within Killface's now empty home. Xander uses the fax machine to find out what Killface needs (12 billion plus 64 thousand to pay off the Chinamen) and invites him to an 'Inventor's Xpo' in Las Vegas with first prize being 12 billion with a prize of 64 thousand for best presentation. Killface, Simon, Sinn, and Phil all head to Las Vegas. Xander enlists the help of Stan and Arthur Watley (the intern whom Xander had turned into a were-crab). According to Xander's plan, "Arthur Watley will give a fake presentation and Killface will win. Stan will give him a fake check. Then, in the ensuing brouhaha Killface will sign a licensing agreement." However, Xander decides to hit on a waitress named Cherry, whom his girlfriend Grace Ryan sees him with, causing her to sleep with a high-school age waiter from the hotel. Whatley gives a presentation for a 'Ant-farm keyboard,' which Killface sees as being sheer genius. Killface and crew begin their presentation, but are quickly stopped by Xander, who has decided to award first place to Whatley for the ant-farm keyboard. Killface is outraged, but Xander throws him the best presentation award as a consolation prize. Killface drives home in rage, scolding Simon for smashing the Ant-Farm keyboard (which Watley had given to Sinn) in the backseat.

Not long after that, Killface devises a plot to kidnap Xander Crews for a ransom of 12 billion dollars (needed to complete the Annihilatrix), with Sin and Phil's assistance while excluding Simon because of his average grades in earth science and algebra. At Crews's office, Watley is left no choice but to trash all of his defective ant-farm keyboards as well as several drums of nuclear waste deciding to put the former inside the latter to save time, not considering the danger of exposing the ants to the waste. Xander and Stan decide to meet with Killface personally to get his signature to approve a license for his action figure. Stan insists that Xander's plans have been endangering the company, to the point that the only way they can continue was by firing the X-tacles, who ultimately decide to take revenge on Xander (not knowing he is Awesome-X and their boss and benefactor). Once Killface and his crew arrive however, he gets caught up in an argument over Sinn applying lipstick to possibly impress Watley, not knowing that as they're arguing, Xander is off to Killface's apartment. Hearing of Xander's plan from Arthur Watley, Killface cannot follow after him because he has a scheduled interview with Grace, and after Watley lays yet another disgusting cluster of eggs, Phil vomits which plummets down to their car below. Set back, Killface sends the car to a carwash and hurries back to the Annihilatrix, while at the same time, Xander and Stan are taken hostage by Simon (armed with a rocket launcher) when they arrive at Killface's apartment, and are sent to the Annihilatrix. Arriving in time for his interview, Killface, his crew and Grace's ascend to the top of the Annihilatrix only to find Simon still holding Xander and Stan hostage. The climax intensifies further when Killface demands his ransom, the Xtacles literally drop in to demand a ransom from Xander too, and the cocktail waiter Grace had an affair with in Las Vegas arrives to kill him too. An all out brawl amongst everyone is stopped when Grace is pushed off, dangling from her microphone on the ledge of the Annihilatrix, soon to plummet into Watley's truck full of super intelligent, radioactive waste covered ants (he had arrived on the scene at the last minute, curious about all the commotion).

Right after Grace fell directly into the super intelligent, radioactive waste covered ants, everybody else fell down when the catwalk on the Annihilatrix collapsed. This is with the exception of Crews, who was kidnapped by the X-ticles. Then, everyone proceeded to the hospital. Watley's lobster claw was impaling Phil, Sin's robotic arm was damaged, Grace was glowing green (because she had since been infested with radioactive ants), Killface has a pole protruding through his chest, and Simon has a minor scrape on his elbow. However, the doctors refuse to see Killface, as his health insurance has lapsed. While he is on the telephone, attempting to sort the mess out, the doctors remove Watley's claw from Phil, with the agreement that they not help Phil any more than is necessary (as he was under Killface's plan), and Simon fixes Sin's arm. It was also found out that Phil had cancer all over his body. On the telephone, Killface finds that his insurance company is owned by Xander Crews, which just makes him more angry at Crews, and he simply removes the protruding pipe. Meanwhile, the X-tacles are attempting to force Crews to raise their pay and give them back their benefits. Crews says he will, and tries to call Stan, but Stan was in the process of declaring Crews legally dead, thus giving him control of the company.

Shortly afterwards, Killface is at his house and notices that Watley had spent the night. This angers Killface, prompting him to horribly wound him. Phil's wife had left him because of the cancer, so he moved in with Killface, whom he also decided to sue. Meanwhile, the ants have taken over Grace Ryan, turning her into supervillain Antagone. She decides to exact her revenge upon Crews and robs a Crews Bank, coincidentally while Killface is at the same location attempting to withdraw money. The two get into a fight, with Killface completely surprised at her new super powers. Meanwhile, Xander Crews convinces the X-tacles to use a DNA scanner to prove that he is Awesome-X. The scanner was found to have been broken by one of the X-tacles who was particularly interested in Crews. Crews, however, steals his jet boots and escapes, crashing through a gazebo with three role-playing nerds.

Crews gets a ride from the nerds to his mansion only to find that Stan had sold it to the hooker who had previously blackmailed him, allowing him to hide his alter ego, which the nerds overhear. They drive him to Grace Ryan's house, where he is assaulted by Antagone. Meanwhile, a blind Killface is left to his own devices (Sinn says good-bye to Watley, who is now almost completely transformed into a giant crab) and ventures out for food at Chick Parmmm. As he is crossing the road, he is spotted by Crews, who had driven off in the nerds' car and drives right into him. Crews tells him that a "plateless gang car" did a hit-and-run and asks to go back with him to his house. Killface does not know this is Crews, who says his name is "Barnaby Jones."

Later, Crews is shown to be living with Killface. While Crews is taking a shower, Killface's son steals Crews' robot pants and a handful of knives, and leaves for the petstore (rendering Xander totally naked for the rest of the episode). Killface finds out (and implies that this has happened before) and both he and Crews take off to look for him. When they try to steal a homeless man's eyes for Killface, he accidentally shoots Crews in the eyes, blinding him as well. They are later picked up by a truck driver who has a truck full of malnourished asian slaves.
