Friends of Animals

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Friends of Animals (founded 1957 Darien, Connecticut, U.S.) played a formative role in the establishment of the modern animal rights movement. Many of the modern movement's best-known writers did early research in the library created by founder Alice Herrington. The group, currently led by Priscilla Feral, continues to adhere to the distinctively rights-based view that has separated the idea from the more traditional animal welfare movement; thus, the primary focus of the group is on protecting the status of free-living animals rather than regulating the use of domesticated animals. The group is also associated with the international vegan movement, which began in England in 1944.
