Fridays, originally titled Cartoon Cartoon Fridays, is the Friday night program block on Cartoon Network that showcases the channel's original animated series, with new episode premieres usually taking place in this block. Around these shows, live action segments in a studio with two hosts and an audience of children are used for continuity between the programs. The block airs between 7pm-5am, with the shows and segments repeating at least twice. Blue Tube Productions produced the block's musical scores. [1]

Friday night is the only evening that is currently programmed for children on the network from 10pm-6am, with Adult Swim airing on Saturday-Thursday nights.

[edit] History

The original title, Cartoon Cartoon Fridays, was based on the name for the channel's original animated programs, Cartoon Cartoons. This name was used from 1999 to 2003. When Cartoon Cartoon Fridays first aired, the intro was unique for its time; it involved lines and volume bars showing all the Cartoon Cartoons. Its commercials featured live action people trying to be Cartoon Cartoons. Its tagline (1999-2000) was "Are you cartoon?" and the "Coming Up Next", "We'll Be Right Back", and "We're Back" bumpers were played by NFL stars who hung up cardboard pieces of Cartoon Cartoon characters. Other bumpers featured The Grambling State Marching Band, a livestock auctioneer, a meterologist, and an astronomer.

In 2000, the bridging format featured newly-animated segments starring the Cartoon Cartoon characters. These segments were repeated until late summer of 2003. The following Cartoon Cartoon characters were hosting the show (in alphabetical order):

In October 4, 2002, Cartoon Cartoon Fridays became Scare-Toon Scare-Toon Fright-Days with the direct-to-video Scooby-Doo movies along with new episodes of Courage the Cowardly Dog and Grim & Evil.

After the summer of 2003, the bridging segments were done in live-action with a new set and hosts Tommy Snider and Nzinga Blake, as well as new characters such as Big Guy Shimmy, Milkman Fred, and Diner Lady, and edutaining (and educational) segments. In February 2004, the show changed into the current remix form. Althought at first, this was a temporary test, it was decided that it would be kept due to how much fans liked it.

In January 2005, Tara Sands took over Nzinga Blake's hosting duties. In February 2005, a month later the show's set was also changed, making it wackier and replacing most of the older characters with newer characters. In April 2006, the set received yet another facelift and now resembles the interior of a retro-chic house.

The original introduction sequence for Fridays featured characters from just about every show that had ever been on Cartoon Network, including shows that later disappeared entirely from the network (examples being Looney Tunes, The Jetsons, and Hong Kong Phooey).
