The presence of a resource on this list does not guarantee that all or any of the images in it are under a free licence. You are still responsible for checking the copyright status of images before you submit them to Wikipedia.

The photos contained in the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs' online photography expositions are free for any use, provided that they are tagged with the following sentence: "Ministère des Affaires étrangères - Service photographique."([French] Ministry of Foreign Affairs - Photographic Service)] Though a wide variety of photos are available, the expositions present a particuarly rich collection of photos of heads of state. The proper copyright tag is {{French Foreign Ministry}}.

- http://www.freerangestock.com - Free images for commercial or private use. Photos are high resolution, high quality and the database is keyword searchable.
- http://www.copyrightfreephotos.com - High quality free photo library for any use, provided that each photographer is contacted beforehand. (Otherwise, not GFDL compatible)
- http://www.hscripts.com/freeimages/ - Free Clipart pictures, each in 48 colours.
- http://freemages.free.fr/ (in French) - A quality library indexing free high resolution pictures (Free Art Licenced images that can be modified, reused and even sold under the Free Art Licence conditions)
- http://www.freedigitalphotos.net - Over 2,000 free images.
- http://www.sxc.hu - Thousands of free stock photos. Only use photos with no restrictions.
- http://gallica.bnf.fr/ (in French)- Digital documents from the Bibliothèque Nationale de France (BNF).
- http://www.gnuart.net (in French) - GNU Art.
- Flickr has a special section for pictures tagged with a Creative Commons license. For example: BY and BY-SA, Search engine. Note that images with NoDerivs or NonCommercial are Non-free Creative Commons licenses and cannot be used on wikipedia. Consider using a work whose author tagged it with a license that is acceptable for use here.

- http://olpaimages.nsf.gov/index.html - The National Science Foundation Image Library: Really great resource for all sorts of science imagery. Must fill out form to download, but most images are for public use as long as attributed. You can use {{NSFIL}} for copyright tagging (don't forget attribution).
- http://visualsonline.cancer.gov/ -Great resource for electron microscopy and histological images. Includes general biomedical and science-related images, cancer-specific scientific and patient care-related images, and portraits of directors and staff of the National Cancer Institute. Image use policy states: "All images are in the public domain and may be used, linked, or reproduced without permission. If an image is used, credit should be given to the listed source and/or author".
- http://worldcoingallery.com/ - permission given by mail to Wikipedia (OTRS ticket number 2006080810014758). Contains all sorts of coins images all over the world, licensed under the GFDL.
