French frigate Oise

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The USS Cronin, Algérien and Oise are all names of a frigate owned at various times by the US Navy and the French Navy. (USS Cronin is also the name of a different ship of the US Navy.)

The ship was originally the USS Cronin (DE-107), a US Navy ship named for Cornelius Cronin, a sailor who was awarded the Medal of Honor during the American Civil War. During World War II, the Cronin was transferred to the Free French naval forces under lend lease on 23 January 1944, and renamed the Algérien. She was returned to the United States, and later re-transferred to France under the Mutual Defense Assistance Program 21 April 1952 with the name Oise.
