French destroyer Ouragan

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ouragan was a French destroyer of the Bourrasque class commissioned in 1927, which during World War II served under the Polish flag, from 18 June 1940 until 30 April 1941. After the fall of France it was taken over by the Royal Navy and leased to the Polish Navy. Ouragan served under the designation OF (Okręt Francuski - French ship), not the usual ORP. The main part of Ouragan's crew came from ORP Grom, which was sunk near Narvik on 4 May 1940. It participated in operations around the British Isles, during which it suffered a series of debilitating technical problems. On April 30, 1941 "Ouragan" was returned to Free French Forces, who in turn passed it to the Royal Navy in 1943. It never returned to active operations, and was scrapped in 1949.
