Free School of Evanston
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Free School of Evanston was an alternative school that existed for five school years in Evanston, Illinois, USA, 1970-75.
It was influenced by Summerhill.
Tuition was based on sliding scale percentage of parents income.
The first year, the school rented space in the in basement of the Unitarian Church, and for the latter four years in the Wheadon Methodist Church, both on Ridge Ave., Evanston.
Students numbered more than 100, divided into lower, middle, and upper groups. They aged 5-16. The school never was 'accredited', as that would have limited its teaching freedoms.
