Frederic Bancroft

The historian Frederic Bancroft (1860 - 1945) was born in Illinois and studied at Amherst College and Columbia University. In 1948, through his bequest, the Bancroft Prize was established at Columbia. It is considered one of the most distinguished academic awards in the field of history.
