Fred Waring Jr.

Fred Waring Jr. (born June 23, 1936 in New York City) is an American jazz musician and trombonist and son of the late Fred Waring, a renowned choral conductor and television and radio personality.
Fred Jr. studied at Pennsylvania State University and later at Indiana University, interrupted by a stint in the US Navy where he played trombone in the Navy Band. Later, he toured with Woody Herman and other Jazz greats before accepting a stint in the Jackie Gleason Show. Later, Fred Jr. went on to tour with the Broadway musical Hair where he served as musical director in London, Copenhagen, Montreal and Washington DC.
In the 1980s, Fred Waring Jr. assumed the position of CEO for his fatherĀ“s music publishing house, Shawnee Press and undertook a number of steps which modernized the company, including a broader catalogue of publications and the modernization of several departments.
Fred Jr. has five sons; Fred Waring III, Bryce, Jordan, Brandon, and Ryan.
Today, Fred is retired in East Texas.
