Fred Basset is a comic strip about an eponymous Basset Hound. The cartoon was created by Scottish cartoonist Alex Graham and first appeared in the Daily Mail on July 8, 1963.

The cartoon strip features the dog in a number of situations that many find to be hilarious. Fred, as his name suggests is a basset dog, sometimes reffered to as a sausage dog. However, a sausage dog is actually a Daschund, so it is a mystery how he got this name. The strip often comes in 3 panels/cells and the last panel/cell is known by many as the punch line. Fred has been recognised by many famous celebraties, the most recent being Hamish Blake, a cohost of an Australian radio show Hamish and Andy, Hamish's cohost Andy Lee on the other hand does not respect Fred despite the 3:1 ratio of listeners who enjoy listening to the comic strip.
