Frank Nighbor

Frank Nighbor (Born - January 26, 1893 in Pembroke, Ontario - Died - April 13, 1966) was a Canadian professional ice hockey forward who played for the Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League, Toronto Blueshirts of the National Hockey Association, and Vancouver Millionaires of the Pacific Coast Hockey Association.

[edit] Playing Career
He played in 348 NHL games between 1917-18 and 1929-30, amassing 136 goals and 60 assists during that span. In the playoffs he had 11 goals and 12 assists in 36 games, winning the Stanley Cup with Ottawa in 1920, 1921, 1923 and 1927. His nickname was "The Pembroke Peach".
An excellent backchecker, his poke check and bodychecking abilities thwarted enemy forwards scoring attempts. For his somewhat high penalty totals, he was a clean player and one of the last 60 minute hockey players.
His best season was 1919-20, when he racked up 26 goals and 15 assists in just 23 games, then had a further 6 goals in 5 playoff games to lead the Senators to their first Cup as an NHL franchise.
Frank was the first recipient of the Hart Trophy, as well as the first recipient of the Lady Byng Trophy. In his first professional game ever, he was pressed into action due to injury. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1947.
He died of cancer April 13th, 1966. In 1998 he was ranked number 100 on The Hockey News' list of the 100 Greatest Hockey Players.
