[edit] Biography
[edit] Before My Chemical Romance
Iero grew up in Belleville, New Jersey, close to the other members (excluding Bob Bryar) of his current band, My Chemical Romance. Iero has hazel eyes with a dark brown natural hair color (now dyed black). He was bullied throughout high school at Queen Of Peace in North Arlington and went to Rutgers University on a scholarship, but eventually dropped out to join My Chemical Romance. [citation needed] He has played in various bands since he was eleven years old, much like fellow bandmate Gerard Way. In addition to his band Pencey Prep, Frank also played with the bands Hybrid, Sector 12, I Am a Graveyard, and briefly with Give Up the Ghost. He was recruited to fill out the band's sound when his band, in which he was vocalist for, Pencey Prep, broke up. For a period of time, Iero also was roommates with the band's bassist, Mikey Way. Currently, Frank is working on the debut album for LEATHERMOUTH, a band in which he serves as the lead singer.
He has the following tattoos: the word "HALLOWEEN" on his fingers, a Jack O Lantern on his back (his first tattoo), "Keep the Faith" on his upper back, the letters "NJ" (standing for New Jersey) inside his lip, "I wish I were a ghost" around his right wrist, sparrows on his lower stomach, "Search and Destroy" wrapping around his lower stomach, guns on his lower back, an anchor on the lower part of his right bicep with an "N" and "J" on either side, and a flame with "HOPE" written under it on the left side of his chest, a scorpion that is missing a leg on the right side of his neck, and many more. Frank got the scorpion tattoo as high up on his body as he could once he decided that he didnt want a real job. Iero suffered from bronchitis and related ear infections throughout his childhood. He has suffered from a case of mono as a consequence of Epstein-Barr virus, and has had numerous lacerations to his head, hands, and knees. He claims he gets hurt every show. He believes the worst injury he sustained was when he broke his toes.
[edit] Music
His father, his grandfather, and great uncle are a major influence on his music career. The first show Iero attended was Weston, The Fiendz, and My Favorite Citizen at The Pipeline in Newark, NJ. His favorite bands include Black Flag, for which he has a tattoo, Bouncing Souls, and Voice in The Wire.
Iero uses an Epiphone Elitist Les Paul Custom guitar with an Antique White finish. One of his many guitars sports the name Pansy which appeared in the 2006 My Chemical Romance calendar and is also a nickname of his, although recently, Pansy was broken by an MTV guitar tech. Iero has named many of his guitars; some of these names include "Bela", "Texas", "Sinatra", "Pansy", "Angel", "New" and "Jersey". He has been seen playing Angel on several TV appearances and the guitar makes a cameo on Life on the Murder Scene. He admires Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day, and learned to play the guitar by imitating him.
