Frank Albert Benford, Jr., (b.1887 Johnstown, Pennsylvania, USA, d. 1948) was an American electrical engineer and physicist.
He rediscovered and generalized the statistical law, first discovered by Simon Newcomb, and later named Benford's Law.
After studies at the University of Michigan (class of 1910) he worked for General Electric from 1910 to 1948. He is also known for having devised -- in 1937 -- an instrument for measuring the refraction index of glass.
