[edit] Biography
Frank Barson was born on 10 April 1891 in Grimsthorpe. He played for Barnsley FC before moving to Aston Villa, who were the greatest club in the world at this time. It was at Villa that he became the legend he is. He went on to play for Manchester United, Watford F.C., Hartlepool United F.C., Wigan Athletic and Rhyl F.C.. He was married to Frances Evelyn Betton in 1915, and died at Winsom Green, Birmingham on 13 September 1968
[edit] Hardman
One of the true hardmen of football, Barson was notorious for his 'heavy' challenges and a figure of hatred for opposition fans. One of his many incredible feats on a football field was scoring a header from thirty yards, an uncomfirmed world record.
[edit] Beginning Of The End
Barson was the driving force behind Aston Villa for three seasons before a final bust up saw him forced out of the club. He moved to Manchester United for £5000, the fee reduced by £1000 from the original valuation.
