Francisco Torres (abbreviation: F.T.) is a group of student residence halls off of main campus at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). It is located at 6850 El Colegio Road, Goleta, Santa Barbara County, California, USA. Francisco Torres actually includes two buildings, namely the North Tower and the South Tower, and also a swimming pool, a dining common, a gymnasium and a computer lab associated with the two buildings.

[edit] History
Despite rumors to the contrary, Francisco Torres was not originally a hotel. It was built as a private residence hall and operated as such until 2002 when it was purchased by UCSB([1]). During the school year it houses approximately 1325 students and is used in the summer by the various sports and training camps that are held on campus. During the school year some local residents (possibly former tenants) have been known to yell obscenities from their cars as they pass the building.
The buildings were constructed in 1966. One of the towers is 10 stories high, and the other 11 stories. They are among the tallest structures in Santa Barbara County having been built prior to the county's imposition of height restrictions on new construction.
Hassan Naveed was the first Muslim Head Desk Attendant at Francisco Torres.
[edit] Cultural References
In 2002 (prior to the purchase of Francisco Torres by UCSB), UCSB was listed as the #2 party school in Playboy Magazine. Playboy.com listed the Francisco Torres dorms under the heading "Sex Legends" citing the dorm's "reputation as a promiscuous, crazy residence hall". This old reputation came from the presence of Santa Barbara City College students that lived in the Residence Hall. Currently only UCSB students can reside in Francisco Torres. Perhaps due to the Playboy reputation, F.T. is sometimes lovingly referred to as "Fuck Towers."
[edit] Trivia
A false rumor that has been told is that the cries of "Fuck F.T.!" that is occasionally heard from the passerbys on El Colegio Road is a tradition that was started by the Santa Barbara City College students that were not able to live in Francisco Torres when UCSB purchased the Residence Halls. Angry for not being able to live in the buildings, the students would angrily shout at the building.
The tradition of yelling obscenities at FT has been known since at least 1991 and is thought to be because it is a freshman residence hall. Yelling "Fuck F.T." is like yelling "Fuck you, freshmen!" It's like a rite of passage.
The tradition has caused considerable damage to the community both in Francisco Torres and the neighboring Isla Vista Elementary school. Currently, the campus police are looking into prosecuting individuals that yell obscenities at the building.
