Francisco Atanasio Domínguez

Francisco Atanasio Domínguez was a Franciscan missionary and explorer of the Southwest United States in 1776. He participated with Silvestre Vélez de Escalante in an expedition from New Mexico trying to reach Monterey, California, during which they passed by the Grand Canyon and were the first white men to go through Utah. This group is sometime referred to as the Dominguez-Escalante Expedition.
