Francis Buchholz was born in Hannover, Germany, on February 19, 1954.
Already at the age of eleven he listened to rock music. His first appearance as a bass player in a high school rock band took place at the age of 15. From then on he played in different rock, blues and jazz bands in his hometown. While he was studying machine engineering at Hannover University and visiting jazz classes at Hannover's Music Academy (Musikhochschule), Francis Buchholz' band Dawn Road joined forces with the rock band Scorpions in 1973. In 1978 he founded Rocksound, which became one of the most important PA & stage-lighting companies in Germany in the eighties and nineties. As the Scorpions' bass player he gained world wide success in the USA, Canada, Japan, Brasil, Mexico, throughout the whole of Europe and other countries. The Scorpions were selling out major halls and stadiums in the 1980's. Francis Buchholz was awarded with more than 50 gold and platinum record sales awards for best selling albums in many countries. He was also awarded with the German ECHO-Award, the World-Music-Award and others. In 1992 Francis Buchholz left the Scorpions. He wrote a book "Bass Magic", worked as an artist consultant and as a music-producer also. A comeback for Francis as a live musician took place in autumn 2005, when he decided to play concerts together with Uli Jon Roth, the former Dawn Road and Scorpions' guitarist. More shows with Uli are scheduled in spring and summer 2006 in Europe and USA.
