François Hollande (born August 12, 1954) is a French politician. Since 1997, he has been the chairman of the French Socialist Party. He is also a deputy from the département of Corrèze and the mayor of Tulle. On November 24, 2005, the Party voted to retain him (running unopposed) as their leader through the next election.
He is a graduate of HEC, Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po) and ENA, and his former profession was as councillor in the Court of Accounts.
In 2004, he took the position of 'yes' on the European Constitution issue, thus opposing number two of the party, Laurent Fabius. Hollande organised an internal referendum on the question. On December 1, the representatives voted with 59% margin for 'aye'.
His spouse in a pacte civil de solidarité (PACS) is French presidential candidate Ségolène Royal, with whom he has four children.
