Fountain City, Tennessee

Fountain City, Tennessee, is a neighborhood in northern Knoxville, Tennessee. It is named for a large fountain. It was originally a separate suburban community from Knoxville. It was the largest unincorporated city in the United States[citation needed] until it was annexed by Knoxville in 1962. Interstate 640 marks the boundary between it and North Knoxville proper. It includes zip codes 37918 and 37912. It is bordered to the north by Halls Crossroads and Powell, two other communities of Knox County, Tennessee. There are many public schools in Fountain City, including Shannondale Elementary, Sterchi Elementary, Fountain City Elementary, Inskip Elementary, Gresham Middle, and Central High. Private schools include Garden Montessori and Nature's Way Montessori Schools. Fountain City was voted the best suburban community in Tennessee in 1986 by People magazine.
