Hello Forbsey and welcome to Wikipedia! Hope you like it here, and stick around.

Here are some tips to help you get started:

Good luck!

[edit] Alan Morton

Forbsey, how come we can't find the date of birth of Alan Morton. It's a disgrace that it's not been included. Have you no way of finding out? I couldn't find it no matter where I searched. And I'm from South of the Border!

[edit]

Not that it's a huge deal, but msg: is deprecated. For the future, it's better to use stub rather than , etc. Thank-you very much for your contributions here- it is greatly appreciated! -Frazzydee| 13:37, 1 Sep 2004 (UTC)

[edit] mass revert

I just wanted to tell you that I rolled back your changes to European Football Championship pages en masse not because the commits were wrong, but simply because there is a much better and simpler way to do it: include the category in the template that they all already have. (I did that too.) --Joy [shallot] 09:53, 20 Sep 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Category:Northern Ireland footballers

Hi Forbesy. Cheers for the kind words on the Category:Football managers edits. I thought I should let you know that I've replaced Category:Northern Ireland football managers with Category:Northern Irish football managers, to fit in with the general scheme of adjectival forms for the managers and footballers categories. Strangely, Category:Northern Ireland footballers is the odd one out among all the footballers categories, too. I will probably change that at some point also. --Lancevortex 19:07, 23 Sep 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Article Licensing

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

[edit] Charlie Hodgson

It's only a stub you know and hasn't been there long. More content will come later.GordyB 11:22, 5 Mar 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Gloucester City

My father was once secretary of this club. How about creating an article? Unfortunately I have nothing to contribute as such because it is outside of my own sphere of interests. But for family reasons I would like to see the article. MPLX/MH 00:11, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Thank you! MPLX/MH 17:28, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Wikify

Hi Forbsey,

please tell me in what respect the mass flow meter article does not conform to wikipidia editing style. It is my intention that the images are non-floating. --Cleon Teunissen 14:14, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Hey, Forbsey here. My apologies about wrongly stating that the article in question requires Wikification. I did not notice the Wikilinks in the bottom half of the page. The reason for this confusion was that from my experience of articles, many more Wikilinks are present than the amount on the article in question. Once again my apologies and i have taken away the -Wikify- from the page. Is there anyway of Categorizing the article? Forbsey 14:30, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Actually, I noticed I had used unwanted formatting. I had used spaces on empty lines, to get more separation between the images and the text. My guess is that if I want that sort of separation I should enlarge the images, add empty white space on the top and the bottom of the images.

In general, I tend to use Wikilinks sparingly, to my mind a lot of people are overdoing it. And yeah, I should have categorized right away. I think 'Physics', and (if that category exists) 'Engineering'. I hadn't looked at the categorizing options yet. I followed some links looking for information on categorizing options, but I got bogged down in uninformative pages. --Cleon Teunissen 14:46, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Andrea Bowen

Remuel here, I was just sorting the stub, I didn't know anything about her. I did look her up on the IMDb and she's American, I'll change the category accordingly. Remuel 19:46, 10 Mar 2005 (UTC)

[edit] footy terminolgy

Dear Forbsey, a quicky if i may - do Scots call an international (someone who plays for the national side), an internationist? i ve run into the term now a few times and saw where you used it when starting up the page for my favourite soccer player, Gary McAllister, that you used the term. i m wondering if it s a term particularly Scottish or what, as far as you know. appreciate the help, Mayumashu 16:15, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] won t change 'internationist' to 'international'

Forbsey, did a yahoo search and 'internalionist' turned up quite a lot, often it seemed with things written on soccer in Scotland. being one of those bothersome at times North Americans who can romanticize the country of their ancestors (for me Dundee, Ayr, and whereever in the Highlands the Sutherland people come from), i m for all things Scottish given a choice. miss not seeing Ally McCoist play (i m a Libra too) and wish their were more Scots in the Rangers first team. all the best dude, Mayumashu 02:24, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Scottish soccer

I see you've edited up a Scottish soccer article, on season 2002-3. How do you feel about me helping you out to do the others, down to at least 1975-76 for the Scottish leagues? I haven't actually consulted Rje or others yet, but this may also be advisable.Bobo192|Edits

I could easily help with the Scottish football leagues task if you want? My only worry is that we will have to change the dialogue box now and again. Bobo192|Edits
How about THIS for a start? I can easily import the markup. Bobo192|Edits
I'm going to change the title of the article to 1890-91 in Scottish Football as the current title has suddenly become misleading. Bobo192|Edits

[edit] vfd

Can you please use rather than just vfd? It's easier on the caches (or something). It does actually ask you to do that in the guide to vfd. -- Francs2000 | Talk 00:02, 14 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Billy Boys

I would ask you to reconsider your vote for deletion, as the article has now been expanded. PatGallacher 17:49, 2005 July 16 (UTC)

[edit] Scottish Cup

Hi there. Seems like I should ask you this question, because despite the fact I've probably already been told, I am admirably forgetful..

Sometimes I find myself editing a Scottish league article and you come along and edit up the Scottish cup details. This is cool, but I'm wondering where you get the information from for this, as wherever I've looked, I can't find it. I mean, it would be easier if I did them all in one go, right? Bobo192|Edits

I forgot we had articles on those now. That really shows how I haven't been keeping up with the Scottish football articles as well as I have with the English ones. Does that mean that the articles Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup now become redundant? Bobo192|Edits

[edit] 2005/06 in Scottish football

Keeping the transfers and such up to date for 2005/06? Sure, I can easily do that with the information I've got available. Shall we keep it being handled as it has been being, such as 2004-05_in_English_football#Major_transfer_deals? That seems a good format to keep <(date), (player) from (club) to (club), (price)>. This sounds like a really workable thing - if we make a section of the 2004-05 in Scottish football article for Major transfer details too, we can get this done easily. This sounds like a good project to get ourselves into - because we can begin to do the same for other years and each division, too. I'll get started soon. Bobo192|Edits

[edit] Major transfer deals

Nice work. Now all to do is to decide what constitutes a major transfer deal and work things through so that we can do this for the rest of the years and the leagues. (It's just such a pity that some of these major players, like Smith and Tierney are going for free, in my opinion. Still, so long as we keep this section as objective as possible, that'll be good work. Thank you. Bobo192|Edits

[edit] Paul Telfer (footballer)

Alright! Just noticed you added him in to the Celtic squad as a defender - I stuck him in earlier as a midfielder, but not sure which is correct, as far as I can gather he's a bit of a utility player. His bio on yahoo has him as a midfielder though which is why I put him in there... Any thoughts? SeanMack 14:19, 22 July 2005 (UTC)

No worries, btw this has gotta happen.... SeanMack 15:19, 22 July 2005 (UTC)
IMO Money talks, I reckon it's only a matter of time. There are Welsh teams in English football and English teams in Scottish football. In fact my local team Derry City play in the Rep of Ire so no real reason why it can't happen. I reckon if they just convince the teams at the lower level of the Premiership then thats a big hurdle. As for what team I support, theres a few. When I was a lad Derry weren't in football at all so my first team was Liverpool. Fond memories of Dalglish, Hansen, Souness and the rest. When I moved to Edinburgh a lad at work used to get spare Celtic tickets so I found myself becoming a supporter. Couldn't believe the sectarianism in Glasgow when I went through though. Mind you the Old Firm down south I reckon over time would lessen that. Be good for football and good for Scotland in the long run as long as the wee teams were looked after. SeanMack 17:27, 22 July 2005 (UTC)
Forgot to mention I'll try and support Perth Glory when the season start up down here, they have Steve McMahon as manager - ex Liverpool hard nut... Although I am led to believe the standard isn't great here.

[edit] Wikipedia:WikiProject Football

Hi, I see you have made some good contributions to the football articles on Wikipedia! Care to join in at the WikiProject? BTW, would you oppose moving your (and others) great series Scottish football seasons to Seasons in Scottish football (and the category from Category:Scottish football seasons to Category:Seasons in Scottish football as both the English and Swedish equivalents use the later form? It would be great if all stuff related to football could be standardized. :) -- Elisson Talk 15:35, 23 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Davie Cooper

I've been working on copy editing the Davie Cooper entry. The more I get into the article, the more it reads like a history of the Bankies from the period. I'm seriously considering taking a hatchet to it and trimming it down to just the parts relevant to Davie. Comments? --GraemeL (talk) 21:26, 1 September 2005 (UTC)

Alright. Sorry for taking so long to get back to you. Just looking at the article, it gives as much information about Clydebank as it does Davie himself so yes it's probably a good idea to trim it down a little. It's a well written article but I don't think that level of detailed information is needed. Forbsey 16:18, 5 September 2005 (UTC)
This is more work than I actually expected. When I got into the detail, it seemed to have the 75-76 season twice. Once with Clydebank in the second division and once with them in the first. After one disaster of an edit, I decided to take it to my sandbox to work on. Feel free to drop by and comment on the work in progress if you have the time. --GraemeL (talk) 14:45, 6 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Amadou Konte

Hello, Forbsey. I've seen your name around on some of the Scottish football articles, so I've come for your help. I'm located in the U.S, and I'm pretty ignorant of American football, so you can perhaps imagine my ignorance of Scottish football. Even I can see, though, that Amadou Konte is very bad. Shockingly bad. An anon user is using it as his personal playground. I keep wanting to revert things back to a clean version, even a clean stubby version, but there's not anything like that in the history. I've done a little research myself, but, as I said, my ignorance prevents me from really understanding what I'm reading. Could you come up with a small clean factual few sentences to replace the mess? Joyous | Talk 18:48, 20 November 2005 (UTC)

Hey. You were right, most of the content was complete rubbish. I have cleaned up the article and added related stub and categories. Thanks for pointing this out to me (I like to keep the articles relating to Scottish Football up-to--date and accurate. Thanks again Forbsey 19:12, 21 November 2005 (UTC)
Wow, that looks so much better! Thanks for your trouble. If you want a bit of a laugh, check out Image:dou.jpg to see the picture that even I knew didn't belong. Joyous | Talk 20:35, 21 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Deleting articles

Hi there, I noticed that you recently listed Matthew Conetta for deletion, which was quite justified. Did you know that when you find a vanity article, you can also list it for speedy deletion? To do this, tag the page with db-bio. You need do nothing else. Finally, when you do mark a page to be deleted by vote, it is now recommended to use rather than VFD or afd. This has the effect of putting the template's text permanently onto the page, and reduces server workload. I hope you continue to edit Wikipedia and enjoy it :) Stifle 11:30, 25 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for the welcome!

Ta for the welcome message Forbsey. It's a great community, int it?

As you may notice from my edits, I'm a fan of the dreaded Celtic - still I think I manage to stay NPOV?

BTW - check the time on this message - I'm an anorak - sad eh?

[edit] Edit Sections and an Animated Scottish Flag

Howdo, Forbsey.

If you like, you could add the word __NOEDITSECTTION__ to your user page - it gets rid of those ugly [edit] tags...

Also, you may be interested in an animated gif I uploaded: Image:Scotland_flag.gif. pretty cool eh?

[edit] Fancy Signature

To get my fancy signature, I clicked on "my preferences" and in the nickname field I entered HTML text like this:

<span style="color:#006666; background-color:orange">Camillus</span><font color="green">talk|contribs</font>

For example you could try this:

<span style="color:red; background-color:blue">Forbsey</span><font color="blue">talk|contribs</font>

But obviously you'll probably want to try out your own ideas!

VERY IMPORTANT: You must check the "Raw Signature" box under the nickname, otherwise when you use the four tildes, you'll just see the HTML!

[edit] NOEDITSECTION at Rangers F.C..

Howdo, Forbsey?

It wasn't me who added this to the Rangers page, but I noticed the other day that someone had added it as a move to counter petty vandalism. It's been done at a number of "controversial" pages, e.g. George W. Bush, as it seems to deter the fly-by vandal. I guess they're too thick to scroll down and look for the bit they want to vandalise. [edit] Celtic F.C season page

Merry Xmas, Forbsey!

I created the Celtic season pages just to be on a par with the Rangers pages, but hoped that some Celtic wikipedian would interested in updating them, but apparently not. If you want to do any work on them, that'd be great, and I would be encouraged to keep them up to date. Ta!

BTW, I came across the article on Jamie McDonald, and noticed you'd added various templates to it. Reading it, it kinda looks like a vanity page to me, and I was thinking of putting up and AfD on it. What do you think? Camillus (talk) 20:05, 24 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Page formatting

Heh, I noticed you inserting lots of breaks to format around your barnstar. For future reference, you can use a single <br clear=all/> to achieve the same without having to work out how many breaks to use. ;-) --GraemeL (talk) 19:30, 25 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Scottish football

Hello Forbsey, thanks for your kind welcome before Christmas which I have finally got around to replying to! As you can see I've been busying away on various Scottish football articles in the last couple of months, you can probably guess from those I've worked on that Dundee UNited are my team, although I have been gradually expanding my edits into other areas as well. In the last few days I've been polishing up some of the SPL squad lists a bit, do you think it would be a good idea to try to expand the squad coverage to include the SFL clubs as well? Looking around Wikipedia, I've noticed this kind of information is sparse even for lower league clubs in England. Jellyman 10:32, 15 January 2006 (UTC)

Forbsey--please review my additions/edits to Celtic F.C. and protect if necessary against the Bhoy's censors and propagandists.

[edit] wikilinking football infoboxes

Hi Forbsey, I noticed your edits to a couple of pages on my watchlist (Duncan Ferguson and Mikel Arteta) where you added wikilinks in the football player infoboxes. I tried to stimulate some discussion on a style guide but nobody seemed all that interested. Since your wikilinking is contrary to my personal opinion on the matter, I'd really like it if you could add your thoughts to infobox's talk page on why you support wikilinking in infoboxes. It might cause some more opinions to come out of the woodwork. veila# 07:48, 18 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:Dick Advocaat.jpg

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Dick Advocaat.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —♦♦ SʘʘTHING(Я) 10:29, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cleanup Template

I've just fixed some of your mistakes, so I figured I would give you a quick heads up. Cleanup and wikify categories are not Date-June 2006 or Date-June 2006. Instead, they are June 2006 and June 2006. I found this here and here. It'd be more convenient if you responded on my talk page. Regards, --Alphachimp talk 07:25, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi. There seems to be a bit of ambiguity over this. I previously used June 2006 but I noticed that someone changed it to Date-June 2006 so ever since I have used the latter thinking it was correct. Anyway at least I now know which is correct, thanks for letting me know. Forbsey 07:47, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, it's a really easy mistake to make. I've fixed every one btw. Thanks for your good work and consicentious reply. Regards, --Alphachimp talk 07:48, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:WikiProject Scotland

Pre-script: we are currently undergoing peer review, see: Wikipedia:Peer review/Scotland.

I am beginning to think that the Scottish Wikipedians' notice board is not the best vehicle for pushing up the quality of the Scotland article (we ought to try to get it to WP:FA, in order to get into Wikipedia:Version 0.5, or, failing that, Wikipedia:Version 1.0), and the other key Scottish articles. It is becoming increasingly obvious to me that we really ought to start up the long-mooted WikiProject Scotland.

Most of the stuff at the notice board (at least on the bottom half) is actually WikiProject material anyway, and the Talk page is really being used as a WikiProject talk already! The notice board should be just that: for bunging up brief notices and signposts. I am thinking of launching a Wikiproject and correspondingly radically clearing out, and chopping down, the noticeboard (a re-launch if you like). The Scotland Portal concept is fine (but currently mediocre/undynamic content), but in stasis: it needs a good kick up the jacksie.

For comparison, have a look at:

And, if you are at a loose end, have a look at:

[edit] Disambiguation Pages

Hello. I was doing some work on some racecar drivers and I noticed that you created a disambiguation page for Keith Andrews. Since you did a move to make way for the disambiguation, there ended up being a number of pages that now link to the disambiguation page. It looks like you may have done the same thing with Stephen Elliott and John Stewart. It is normally undesirable to leave links pointing to DAB pages and is considered polite to move the links to the corresponding articles, especially upon the result of a page move. I am happy to clean up the links for Andrews, but would request that you do so for Elliott and Stewart at your earliest convenience. Respectfully, --Brian G (Talk) 23:21, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Rangers.png

Thanks for uploading Image:Rangers.png. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Alexj2002 17:03, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Source of information?

Hi, I’ve noticed quite a few of the Scottish season articles are completely lacking of information, 1990-91 in Scottish football, for example. Do you know of any sites that will provide the relevant information and statistics? I hope you don’t mind me asking. Kanaye 21:18, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

Hi. There was a really good website that I was using to do the earlier League tables but it no longer exists. Soccerbase have the tables from 1975-76 onwards but they are seperated into 'Home' and 'Away' which is a bit inconvenient. I noticed that you changed the format of the tables for 2000-01 and 2001-02. It certainly looks a lot better, nice work. Do you plan to change the format for the rest? I'll try and do a few a week but will take a while to complete it obviously! Forbsey 22:24, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the link. I’ll let you know if I find anything for the earlier seasons.
Yeah I’ll probably change the existing tables to match the newer ones (they’re a bit easier on the eye) but priority should clearly be given to populating the empty pages rather than prettifying existing ones. If you can do a few as well then that would really help, but please don’t feel obliged. Kanaye 15:45, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:WikiProject Scotland

Following a successful period of consultation WikiProject Scotland has now been launched. As a participant in the Scottish Wikipedians' notice board I wonder if you may be interested in this new endeavour too? If so, please sign-up here. The WikiProject will be replacing some of the functions of the notice board, especially those in the lower half.

While I am here, please also have a look at the new Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Scotland and give it a "Watch". It was started up by User:Visviva a few days ago, after long being mooted at the notice board, and effectively replaces all the AfD listings at the notice board. Being a transclusion of all the on-going discussions it is a much more useful tool.

Even if you do not want to spend too much time on the WikiProject, please give it a "Watch" and feel free to contribute to Talk page discussions: the more contributors the merrier.

All the best. --Mais oui! 11:19, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Kris Boyd

Sorry about the revert, there was an edit conflict when i was attempting revert the previous editor's POV additions, and i inadvertantly reverted yours too. My apologies. Rockpocket 20:31, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ally MacLeod

I've moved the page to one which uses the correct spelling of his name. As far as I can see, there are no problems with it. Watty1962 22:56, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, Soccerbase state his surname as MacLeod as do most sources referring to him. I made a few other minor changes as you may have noticed. Forbsey 17:08, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Scottish League Cup 2006-07

Sorry about the late reply, I agree your proposal looks better and I'll change it when I add the rest of the article. Cheers. Archibald99 17:35, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Aberdeen F.C.

[edit] Eberhard Anheuser

I saw your cleanup template on Eberhard Anheuser while I was editing it. In fact, I got a user conflict because I was in the middle of editing when you made the change. Just take a look and see if it is closer to par. TonyTheTiger 22:10, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

P.S. How do you manipulate your user page font. I would like to do the same to increase my space efficiency TonyTheTiger 22:47, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
