I live in Canada and contribute to Wikipedia on the UFO phenomenon and related topics. During its heyday in the 1960s, I was a member of the National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena (NICAP). For a while during that period I was the editor of the YC Newsletter of the NICAP Youth Council.
At that time, I thought there probably was something to UFOs, although I never believed any of the "contactee" stories and none of the standard theories (extraterrestrial or interdimensional visitors, time travellers, top-secret military aircraft, etc) ever made complete sense. But, in my old age, I have more serious doubts. UFOs and the many legends that have cropped up around them probably are just products of wishful thinking, paranoia, or overly active imaginations. Even so the UFO phenomenon surely is one of the great and truly intriguing mythologies of modern time.
