[edit] "Fort Rucker" vs. "Fort Rucker, Alabama"

I want to move this article back to "Fort Rucker". (A) It's a military base, not a town. The state name isn't part of its name. (B) The article was moved by cut&paste, losing the edit history. Comments? —wwoods 16:10, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

Redstone Arsenal is not Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. I don't see why Fort Rucker is Fort Rucker, Alabama. --Anivron 16:58, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
The history of this article and many other "Fort" articles is that they began from an import of census place information which included the forts as a designated census place within each fort's respective state. If you look at the category Category:United States Army posts you'll see many other still listed with states just as Fort Rucker. Because the Census Bureau believes they are places as well as military installations, the current title is certainly correct from that viewpoint. However, you might bring up the discussion at Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history for a consistent representation of US military base titles. AUTiger ʃ talk/work 23:58, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
