[edit] Official Site Announcement
- Fans are already primed to make next year a Star Wars year to remember. 2007 marks the 30th anniversary of the beloved saga, and already there are whispers of possible events that will commemorate that milestone. But what hasn't yet been talked about is the biggest entertainment event of the year: a major addition to the Star Wars mythos.
- It begins now. As with the earliest glimpses of Episode III, Hyperspace will be the first place to get a look at the secrets 2007 holds. A new image series, rich with explosive and intriguing concept art, is your first look at next year's biggest Star Wars surprise. Hyperspace members, click here to see it.
[edit] Overview
The game will be using "Digital Molecular Matter," an extremely detailed and realistic graphics engine developed by LucasArts in conjunction with ILM, Pixelux Entertainment and NaturalMotion specifically for the game; and a new A.I. system named "Euphoria". Pre-visualization demonstrations were shown at the LucasArts booth at E3 2006. The game developers refer to it as "the Force Unleashed."
From the preview shown, the game will take place sometime after the rise of the Galactic Empire, and allow players to control Force-users. Motion images seen to date highlight the engine's use of Pixelux's Digital Molecular Matter, showing the Force-users engaging in advanced telekinesis and Force lightning.
[edit] Story-line
Story-wise, from interviews, demos, and concept art the following can be gleaned:
- Haden Blackman is writing the story, which involves "delv[ing] deeper into Darth Vader's history."
- Steve Sansweet confirmed that it will take place between Episode III and Episode IV, will feature both established and new characters, and its story "has some incredible revelations."
- The player will control a dark side character, although whether it is Darth Vader or someone else is unknown.
- The demo shows a Star Destroyer in the sky over Felucia, although it was possibly only used to show off the graphics engine as opposed to reveal any plot.
- The first piece of concept art shows Vader, AT-STs, and an AT-AT fighting Wookiees on Kashyyyk.
- The second piece of concept art show Vader looking over a group of four people, presumably mercenaries: a Gand, a Human woman with a vibrostaff, a masked Human or Humanoid male, and a droid that resembles a cross between Grievous and HK-47.
- The third piece of concept art shows a human figure with a red lightsaber standing before a crashed Imperial Star Destroyer.
- The fourth piece of concept art shows a Human man with two blue lightsabers, and two Human women, using a Force bubble to blast away Stormtroopers. An UT-AT can be seen in the lower right side of the picture and another one being thrown to the left.
- Another concept art shows a hooded figure with blue lightsaber standing in front of what appears to be the crashed star destroyer, with spider-like droids approaching. The artist appears to have labelled the picture as "Raxus Prime."
- A concept art piece shows a Jedi with a blue lightsaber lifting up an AT-AT on a world that appears to be Naboo.
- A concept art shows a female Zabrak holding two green "light-batons."
- A concept art shows a hooded figure with a green double-bladed lightsaber inside some type of dark medical or torture facility. An EV supervisor droid, an IG-series assassin droid and a protocol droid are visible among the wreckage.
- A concept art titled "Greatly Exaggerated" (in reference to the supposed death of some characters) shows Shaak Ti and a Rutian Twi'lek Jedi in a crystal cave resembling Ilum, with Rancors and a Dark Jedi.
- A "Force Power Pre-Viz" video on Star Wars: Hyperspace, while not actually using gameplay footage, shows a Jedi fighting stormtroopers in several locations, apparently including Aldera on Alderaan, the medical facility on Polis Massa, and a ruined city that could be Coruscant, or possibly Nar Shaddaa.
