Forth & Towne
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Forth & Towne is a brand of clothing stores that is owned by Gap Inc., which also owns the Gap, Banana Republic, and Old Navy brands. It operates several recently opened test stores in the Chicago (Algoquin, IL; Aurora, IL; Skokie, IL; Schaumburg, IL) and New York (West Nyack, NY) areas. Forth & Towne focuses on women over 35 who grew up with the Gap brand, but have "lost touch" with it. The name of the store refers to both the fact that it is Gap Inc.'s fourth retail clothing brand, and that the store design attempts to instill a feeling of community.
The first Forth & Towne location to open was in West Nyack's Palisades Center; it opened on August 24, 2005.
Other locations where Forth and Towne will open:
- Seattle, Washington
- San Francisco, California
- San Jose, California
- Santa Barbara, California
- San Diego, California
- Atlanta, Georgia
[edit] Store Design
Forth & Towne stores have been designed with a "fitting salon" as a major part of the store layout. Instead of traditional fitting rooms, the lavish salon provides a central meeting place for the customers as they make their selections. Each separate fitting room within the salon is given its own unique wallpaper, recognizing the fact that every customer has their own individual sense of style.
